Well-executed events are key to any successful marketing communication strategy, whether the focus is on an internal audience, such as employees, or an external audience, such as customers or the media. An effective event communication strategy should aim to engage and involve your attendees, and encourage awareness, interaction and feedback. Multiple communication channels can be used to achieve strategic communication goals, from social media tools and videos, to storytelling, interactive activities and live-streamed presentations.
In 2018, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres endorsed the first-ever UN-wide road safety management approach. The initiative was a milestone for the UN because road crashes remain a leading cause of death for staff, and for aid and development workers around the globe.
We collaborated with not-for-profit Fleet Forum Association to highlight this milestone with an interactive launch event. We developed and executed a live event that had an internal focus (educating UN staff around the globe) and an external focus (informing and recognizing key strategic partners).
The event was held simultaneously at UN Headquarters in New York City and at World Health Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It included custom-produced films; event marketing, communication and social media materials; storytelling; interactive road safety activities; and high-profile guest speakers such as Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety, and Michelle Yeoh, actress and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador. We also produced a launch event toolkit with supporting materials to enable other UN organizations to undertake similar event launches.
